Serial or IP, Which should I use?

I have a Pioneer VSX-53 AV Receiver that is supported by all 3 remote modes. I’m going to employ IP or Serial, but don’t know if one of these methods is preferable over the other. What is recommended? Also, I want to make sure that the method supports Power ON and Power OFF. Please help!

In general, serial is probably preferrable with Pioneer. Pioneer has a history of somewhat poor IP control reliability. Although, we are not aware of any chronic issues with their 2012 models as there were with some of their previous model years. On a more generic note, serial also enables multiple connections from different iOS devices intrinsically whereas straight IP control Pioneer only supports 1 connection at a time.

Thank you for the fast response. One last question… Will I be able to turn my AV Receiver on and off via the serial connection?

Yes.
